Sleep Safety Information
Please note that the Sleepy Hat is not intended for overnight use and should never be worn on babies when they are placed in cribs (no hat should be!). It is intended to help reduce stimulation and requires supervision.
Below are recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) guidelines for safe baby sleep:
- Back to Sleep: Always place babies on their backs to sleep, for naps and nighttime.
- Firm Sleep Surface: Use a firm mattress covered by a fitted sheet in a safety-approved crib.
- Room-Sharing Without Bed-Sharing: Keep the baby’s sleep area in the same room where you sleep for at least the first 6 months, preferably the first year, but avoid bed-sharing.
- Avoid Soft Bedding: Keep soft objects and loose bedding (e.g., pillows, blankets, crib bumpers) out of the baby’s sleep area.
- Temperature Control: Avoid overheating; dress the baby in light sleep clothing, and keep the room at a comfortable temperature.
